Since I’ve been on the same journey as most of you, here I’ve collected some of my favorite tips and tricks that I’ve learned along the way help to save you time, money, and most of all to help you to hit that ground running! When to go to Italy?

Who doesn’t want to unplug sometimes and dream of a vacation! As you all know, Italy is a favorite destination. This might seem obvious but it can save you the most so it bears revisiting: Book in the off-season, when possible. Traditionally the peak season has been highest in the summer months, but things are changing some with fall becoming increasingly popular.

Flight Hacks

Want to travel to Italy but flights are outrageous? Maybe off-season isn't an option for you. Here are some tips I use myself when planning trips: 1) Searching on certain days of the week often give better pricing (generally midweek) but that could be subject to your location and destination as well, so do your due diligence. 2) If you have a VPN, try changing your VPN location to see if that may affect pricing. 3) One of my favorite tricks is to use a private search window when searching for flights! 4) In summary-please DO NOT search for flights constantly every day of the week for weeks or months in your regular window-that is the quickest way to get overpriced tickets!

Citizenship

New Citizenship Rules

The law for citizenship by blood recently changed in 2025. There are a lot of nuances to this subject, so it is best to talk directly about individual cases. But the short answer is, depending on your descent’s circumstances (year of birth, age, gender, naturalization status, etc.), you could have a pathway to dual citizenship either directly or by petitioning the court, depending on what type of case you need.

Gaining Citizenship

Many people are interested in getting their citizenship. Since the new laws, it's more confusing than ever to make sense of it all. So we have partnered with an attorney directly in Italy to help navigate each individual’s journey. Gaining a Feel of the Language

Italian is a more “complete” language when they speak, meaning they often need to use a complete sentence unlike in English where sometimes things are understood. For example: An English speaker may say “I know” But in Italian they would say “Lo so”, or “lo sapevo” which is I know IT or I knew IT, respectively. It’s incomplete without the “it”. Also, a fun thing to think about is that in Italian often the structure of the sentences, especially when you get to a higher level, is often structured kind of like Yoda and often might even have a rather “old English” feel to it such as: Mi PIACE, which is how Italians express liking something but literally it translates to “it is pleasing to me”.

Here's the "secret sauce": Finding material RELEVANT to you, your likes and your style can really springboard your success! Make it enjoyable; this is how your brain learns best on just about everything.

Need inspiration...

Beginner

Being a beginner may seem daunting but actually a beginner (what is often referred to as A1) to upper beginner (A2) can be achieved relatively quickly if you have the time and commitment. This is very helpful to keep one inspired. That motivation turns into energy and that turns into momentum. This is gold in the learning arena! BONUS trick: Cognates (similar words EN<--> IT) are a fun way to start; it helps you realize how much you already know. Talk about motivational!

Intermediate

This level is vast and there is so much to discuss. It includes a broad range (sometimes called B1-B2). This is where many learners struggle. There is also the infamous: intermediate plateau (which sometimes seems like a desolate desert!) and can be difficult to traverse. Let's start with one overall tip: stay engaged with the language. It's normal that interest sometimes waxes and wanes. That's why My Faves - includes so many things!

More Intermediate

Another fun way to traverse the intermediate plateau, is reading! That’s why my native Italian husband and I saw a need we could fill and what made us decide to create our books and various series. Of course we aren’t the only books available, but we tried to make ours unique, coming from a student and a native speaker working together to create a unique synergy with cutting-edge features to keep you engaged, and your journey supported. Learning becomes a byproduct of fun experiences! We have other series for all levels as well, including children if you want to gift this beautiful language to the next generation as well.

Bonus Tips

Overall advice: 1) “Touch” the language everyday (even if only for 10 minutes). 2) Learn phrases not just words. 3) Unless you are someone that really is into grammar-don’t worry about it much at first. 4) Connecting /filler words and phrases are some of my favorites because they make the conversation flow better and they also help give you time to think.
